Imported from the Czech Republic, this unique breed is a cross between a Black Copper Maran rooster and a Barred Rock hen. Retaining its Black Copper Maran heritage, feathering is primarily black with splashes of brown, laced with green iridescence. They forage well and are hardy to both cold and hot environments. Averaging 290+ eggs a year, this breed is exceptional for a dark egg layer. Eggs are large in size, usually dark chocolate brown. Due to cross breeding, lighter colored eggs may occur from time to time. Some will develop feathered legs, while others will remain clean legged. Overall, the Copper Rock Maran creates an excellent combination of vivid color and egg laying efficiency. Mature hens weigh an average of 4 to 4.5 lbs. Mature roosters weigh an average of 6 to 7 lbs.
